What is a denturologist?

A denturologist is a front-line professional in the field of dental prostheses. He is in direct contact with the patient and is responsible for the clinical part of the dental activity, namely: the denturological examination, the impression taking, the articulation, the fitting and the putting in mouth of the prostheses that he produces. Finally, the denturologist provides the patient with advice on the use, adjustment period, possible adjustments, maintenance and duration of dentures.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small metal screw made of titanium, a material remarkably well tolerated and accepted by the tissues. The implant is inserted into the bone during a short operation under local anesthesia. In the days that follow, it will integrate with the bone in a painless way and thus create a solid base for the durable and stable anchoring of any restoration.

Who are the dental implants for?

It is possible to place implants as soon as the growth of the jaw is complete. Beyond this constraint, implants can be an optimal solution for all age groups. People who have lost all their natural teeth can now recover up to 90% of their masticatory force. The basic conditions for successful implantation are good general health, good oral hygiene and sufficient bone capital in terms of quality and volume. If the amount of bone is insufficient, there are several methods to adopt this solution.

Are dental implants safe?

Since their development in the 1960s, the use of implants has been the subject of more than 10,000 scientific studies. There are long-term studies that have observed implantology solutions for more than 15 years and clearly attest to the excellent success rate of over 97%. In addition to the careful planning of treatment and the professional placement of the dentist, appropriate maintenance is one of the most important conditions for long-term success.

Am I too old to have prosthetic implants?

This is a very personal question. Many older people use implant dentures because they still want to enjoy the good things served at the dinner table and feel good about themselves.

Do I have to have multiple dental implants?

It all depends on the structure and the size of your jaws. The dentist surgeon will make recommendations as to which types of implants are right for you, as well as their number, length and diameter. He will forward all relevant information to the denturologist responsible for the design of the implant prosthesis. The more implants that are inserted, the more the dental prosthesis will be stable and solid.

When should you think about changing your dentures?

Wearing a dental prosthesis can lead to a host of morphological changes without you necessarily noticing. In principle, you should change your prosthesis every five years, especially because of bone resorption and tooth wear. Your denturologist is sensitive to your well-being and knows what to do to make your life easier. He has the experience and expertise to guide you in choosing a treatment plan. Visit him once a year for a free exam. He will advise you in a professional and honest manner.

What will the first day be like after a dental implant placement?

Take this pain reliever as needed, in the prescribed manner only. You must feel that your dental prosthesis is secure. You can eat as soon as you want, but avoid foods that are too hard or very sticky during the period recommended by your dentist and denturologist. (Texture of fish and pasta.)
